No More Excuses!
No matter how much I follow a calendar, write down most things, and try to put together a process for everything, there are things for which I make excuses both in my personal life as well as in business. I’m pretty positive you make excuses as well without even knowing that you are doing so.
About five years ago, I was told that I needed to get braces since my teeth are shifting (basically, I’m getting long in the tooth!) In order to do so, I would need to remove my wisdom teeth which are still in place. Each year, I’ve said that I’m too busy to have all my wisdom teeth taken out at the same time, so I’ve postponed it every year. This year, I decided that there will be no more excuses for not taking care of this and have done all the work to make it happen – within one month. Well, I will not need to take my teeth out because I’ve waited so long that they have shifted and made room. I’ve now set the date for getting braces.
I realize that there are other tasks that, in my mind, have taken on the monumental proportions of pulling teeth. Here are my top ones – all based on prefixes of “I don’t have enough time to …” or “I’m too tired to…”
1. Write the next book
2. Eat regular meals
3. Go to Australia/India/China
4. Exercise on a regular basis / go to exercise classes
5. Update my will
6. Get a doctorate
7. Plan an employee social
8. Get enough sleep
No more excuses in 2015. You’re busy. I’m busy. We will always be busy for the rest of our lives. Things still need to get done. Why not carve out a little time each day and take some action on at least one of your Excuse list? Hopefully, at the end of the year, I will have completed some and started others.
